With that said certain companies or certain fields disapprove of piercings; expect you to wear a tie; downplay facial hair and would prefer even not to sniff tattoos. There’s a dress code. Some business fields are easier than others.
The truth of the matter is, in the working environment, there’s more dread then there is knowledge. Many people in control still view tattoos as an issue or feel threatened by them. When Mike Tyson got his tattoo, regardless of what his intentions did you think he currently looks more or less threatening? (Love ya Mr. Tyson). When I met my first wife, her dad didn’t need me close to her. Originating from Sicily, if you had tattoos, you did prison time.
If your response is the same as the story up top, it’s not so you may not be prepared for a tattoo-you may not be prepared for an occupation. For each activity, there is a response. If you can’t acknowledge the responsibility of this, at that point it really doesn’t make any difference what your activity is, does it? If having a tattoo in a conspicuously open, perceptible region (IE forearms, hand, wrist, neck, and so on.) is more important to you then the possibility of a profession in your chosen field, cool. This isn’t to say you won’t look for some kind of employment. It’s just may become difficult initially. Of course, if your field of expertise is OK with tats to send me a message asking for a statement of regret for wasting 10 minutes of your life understanding this. I will unassumingly apologize.
Things are evolving, however. I strolled into my nearby market recently; one of the largest supermarket chains in the U.S. The assistant director has an enormous lower arm tattoo. He didn’t start off as the administrator; he’s been there for some years. I needed to take my little girl to the hospital medium-term for some testing. The male nurse had two sleeves and they were intense tattoos as well. Really dynamic, could see them from a mile away. He had short sleeves on as well. He had been a nurse for more than 5 years. Things are evolving.
